Therefore: Six Nations Polytechnic exists to ensure the following:
1. Increased Access to Post Secondary Education
- Aboriginal Enrollment in post secondary programs will increase by creating opportunities, programs, and services at the institute.
- Students will be equipped with knowledge and skills to enable them to successfully qualify for and complete post secondary programs.
2. Preservation of Ogweho:weh Language and Culture
- Students will learn to have a growing knowledge and appreciation of aboriginal culture, language, traditions, beliefs, and values through a holistic approach, which reinforces the importance and integrity of cultural knowledge.
- All aspects of the Ogweho:weh culture, language, and knowledge will be presented and developed at Six Nations Polytechnic.
- Respect for all cultures will be fostered in students in order to defeat misconceptions, prejudices, discrimination, and racism.
3. Development of Occupational and Professional Skills
- The number of aboriginal health care professionals, particularly doctors and nurses, will be increased through focused preparation of students in health service courses.
- The quality of teaching across the community will be enhanced through the development of a Teacher Resource Centre.
- Six Nations PolytechnicÕs programs and services will be responsive to Human Resource Needs. Six Nations Polytechnic is committed to research and development.
4. Enhance Economic Capabilities of the Community
- The economic health of the community will be strengthened through the provision of a larger group of educated and skilled citizens.
- The generational cycle of social assistance dependency and poverty will be considerably reduced through exposure to opportunities, education, and skills development.
- The number of aboriginal citizens who are employable in all walks of life will be increased. Employers will be satisfied with the overall preparation level of graduates.
5. Life Skills Development
- Students will be equipped through the development of life skills, including but not limited to, literacy, problem solving, research and fact finding, the ability to acquire and apply knowledge, and to continually seek new knowledge and skills.
- Students will be empowered through strengthening values, including but not limited, to integrity, confidence, self-esteem, self-sufficiency, responsibility, and respect for each other.
- Students will recognize the value of and develop a desire for lifelong learning.
6. Establish Aboriginal Role Models
- The number of Ogweho:weh role models, who have successfully completed post secondary education programs and successfully applied their training, will increase.
