Module 2:  Accountability
With respect to the staff development theme, this module aims to expand candidates’ knowledge of instructional practices—a prerequisite to consideration of how to decide when each is appropriate for use.  Candidates will develop knowledge specifically for accountability purposes.  The candidates will be engaged in the legal policy and procedural issues that must be taken into account in effectively using appraisal for accountability.

Theme: Building the Circle of Support

Module 3:  Management
Candidates will be introduced to traditional conceptions of managerial and administrative functions including planning, coordinating, consulting and monitoring.  These functions will serve as a framework for skill development in applied areas of school managerial work.  Information about legislation, policies and collective agreements will be provided in context of developing skills in each area of managerial work.  Attention will also be given to decision-making as a generic managerial function.

Module 4:  Leadership
Candidates will be provided with knowledge about the main characteristics of a significant number of alternative views of leadership; they will also be assisted in understanding the programs and context within each view developed.  Transformational leadership theory will be given special attention and how it specifically pertains to First Nation settings.  The skills involved include working with community stakeholders to provide a vision for the school, developing consensus about goals and philosophical dimensions for school improvement and restructuring, providing staff with support, modeling values, conveying high performance expectations, etc.
