Six Nations Literacy Achievement Centre

The Six Nations Literacy Achievement Centre is a community based agency that has provided service to the community of Six Nations for over sixteen years. The centre provides instruction in basic Math, English and computers for adults whom need to increase their academic skills for entry into higher level of education or to obtain employment. Eligibility requirements are 16 years of age and older, and not attending any other educational institution.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Six Nations Literacy Achievement Centre is to provide, through a non-profit organization, free tutoring in basic math and English, in a culturally sensitive manner.

What is Offered

One-to-One Tutoring is provided. Participants must attend (two) 2-hour sessions per week. Sessions are held Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Evenings and weekend sessions will be made by appointment only. Sessions run for a maximum of three months. A new contract can be negotiated, if needed.

A New Plan for 2006-2007

The Six Nations Literacy Achievement Centre has developed a plan to offer a Pre-GED program. For those clients who need to upgrade or refresh their academic knowledge in order for them to write the General Education Development Test, an assessment will be completed before refreshing those academic skills.

Funding

The Literacy Achievement Centre is funded each year through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Literacy and Basic Skills Branch.
