Montana Summers grew up immersed with cultural traditions and teachings from his grandmother, an Oneida Nation Clan Mother.

He was inspired to dance at a young age when he was exposed to Longhouse dances in his community and began training in modern, jazz, and ballet at H.B. Beal Secondary School. As a senior he was accepted into the Indigenous Dance Residency (2015) and KDT’s Summer Intensive (2016) where he trained in the exploration of Indigenous and contemporary dance.

Montana dances with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre - productions include: The Honouring (2015-2017) and Medicine Bear (2016). He is also a collaborator in Santee Smith’s work: I Lost My Talk (National Arts Centre Orchestra, 2016) and Sewatonhna ren (2016-2017).
