The University Year 1 Consortium Program (UP) is a one-year, community-based university preparation program offered at Six Nations Polytechnic in partnership with six leading Ontario universities.
UP allows you to complete your first year of a Bachelor of Arts degree close to home, in a small, supportive, and culturally grounded learning environment, while earning transferable university credits that can be applied toward Year 2 admission at partner universities.
This program is ideal for students who want to:

What You’ll Learn
UP combines university-level academic courses with Indigenous knowledge, language, and community-based learning. Courses focus on:
- Social Sciences – sociology, psychology, social work, and community studies
- Indigenous Studies – Indigenous history, contemporary issues, governance, and worldviews
- Language & Culture – Cayuga or Mohawk language and cultural foundations
- Academic Skills – writing, research, critical thinking, and university readiness

The program allows students to complete up to ten courses (30 units), on a full- or part-time basis, that are eligible to be transferred to an undergraduate degree program at the partner universities via the University Consortium (UP) Articulation Agreement. Students who successfully complete the requirements of UP are eligible for admission to the second year at one of the following universities or Six Nations Polytechnic:
- Brock University
- McMaster University
- The University of Guelph
- The University of Waterloo
- Western University
- Wilfrid Laurier University
UP students must apply for admission through OUAC to the university partner(s) of their choice, usually early in their second term of study, before the deadline, and are advised to carefully review their transfer options, including the program requirements of the institute they are transferring to.
Students eligible for admission will obtain transfer credit for each UP course completed at SNP with a minimum grade of 60%.
