Six Nations Polytechnic Hosts Annual Celebration and Convocation

OHSWEKEN, June 20, 2025 – On June 12, 2025, Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) held its Annual Celebration and Convocation. This meaningful event celebrated the outstanding achievements of students who demonstrated academic excellence across multiple programs and credentials. This year, SNP proudly celebrated 141 students, each walking across the stage to receive their degrees, diplomas, and certificates amongst their loved ones, friends, and SNP staff and faculty.

SNP is committed to delivering both formal and informal educational programs and opportunities to the Six Nations of the Grand River community and the surrounding areas. During the celebration, SNP honoured students in all fields of education, including the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehoweh Languages, Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehoweh Languages, University Consortium Year 1, Community & Justice Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Service Worker, Personal Support Worker, Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diploma and Degrees (Indigenous), Practical Nursing, Construction Techniques, Pre-Apprenticeship General Machinist, Pre-Apprenticeship Welding, We Are Welders – Women in Welding, and General Machinist Apprenticeship (429A) Level 3. Each program equipped learners with invaluable skills for their future careers.

Throughout the celebration, several esteemed awards were presented to students. Anguyuaq Celeste Tookoome-Hill received the Harvey Longboat Sr. Memorial Scholarship for achieving the highest overall average in the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehoweh Languages – Mohawk stream. This award is dedicated in memory of Harvey Longboat Sr., who, during his term with the SNP Board of Governors, created the “Philosophy” by which SNP strives to function today.

Elizabeth Clause received the Marge and Reg Henry Cayuga Language Award for attaining the single highest grade in a Cayuga language course. As an Honours Bachelor of Arts graduate in Ogwehoweh Languages – Cayuga stream, she shows dedication to preserving and maintaining the Cayuga language.

Anguyuaq Celeste Tookoome-Hill earned the Vina Loft Mohawk Language Award for achieving the highest grade in a Mohawk language course within the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Ogwehoweh Languages – Mohawk stream. This award serves as a tribute to Vina Loft, a passionate advocate for the Mohawk language and a fluent speaker herself. Her dedication to preserving the Mohawk language began with teaching all her children to speak fluently.
