Reported Positive Case of COVID-19 at Six Nations Polytechnic, Brantford Campus

Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) Brantford Campus will be closing as listed below:

  • SNP STEAM Academy students will revert to online learning for this period. SNP STEAM Academy closed March 1-5, 2021 to staff and students
  • SNP College and Trades Closed March 1, 2021, to all staff and students. SNP staff and college/trades students may return March 2, 2021, for previously scheduled on-site access
  • SNP Ohsweken Campus remains closed to the public. Staff may access the building for priority matters by request.

Today, an individual reported a confirmed positive COVID-19 case at Six Nations Polytechnic’s Brantford Campus. This person last accessed the campus on Thursday, February 18th. Understandably, for privacy reasons, we are not able to provide further details. We have also been closely following and monitoring the COVID cases at Six Nations of the Grand River and have noted the significant increase in cases reported over the past week.

As a result, we have made the decision to close SNP Brantford Campus for the dates listed above. This will provide time for direction from Public Health around contact tracing and additional actions and will allow us to complete a disinfecting and sanitization of the campus.

We will work closely with and follow all guidance from Public Health authorities prior to re-opening the campus. All SNP staff and students are reminded to monitor their health and contact their healthcare provider or arrange to get tested if they are experiencing symptoms. As a reminder, under the new requirements, all staff and students are now required to stay home from school if anyone in their household has new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19 and has been recommended for isolation and testing

SNP’s cases will be closely monitored and reported on by either the Brant County Health Unit or Six Nations Public Health. The health and safety of our learning community remains our top priority. Our prevention protocols and response plan have been assessed to meet and, in many instances, exceed the Ministry and governmental guidance documents for schools and organizations. “We will continue to work alongside, and are grateful for, the support from our local Public Health authorities. Our thoughts and well wishes are with all the families being impacted by COVID-19” says Director of Operations, Nichole Martin.
